The King of Morocco's Former New Jersey Home is Becoming a Lavish Hotel.

09/05/2018

The Pendry Natirar is the latest luxurious hideaway to spring up less than an hour from New York.

The life of a royal is full of obligations. There are meet and greets, lengthy state dinners, and high-level meetings spent discussing global affairs, but perhaps one of the most enjoyable parts of being a member of any royal family is the near-implicit obligation to live lavishly. The King of Morocco, Hassan II was no exception with his healthy selection of homes located in his native Rabat, Morocco and aboard.

Enter Pendry Hotels, which snapped up the king’s palatial New Jersey compound – a near-inexplicable portion of the royal’s estate portfolio that was visited only a few times by the man himself – for an undisclosed, albeit hefty, sum. And while the future plans remained in limbo, it was announced that the budding hotel group operating under the Montage International umbrella will convert the 33,000-sqaure-foot Natirar Mansion into “America’s greatest modern day manor.”

If all goes according to planned, The Pendry Natirar, scheduled to open in early 2020, will live up to the hype. Comprised of both hotels rooms and permanent residences, the property is located less than an hour from New York City in Somerset County, New Jersey where the manicured 90-acre Tudor estate is surrounded by over 400 acres of beautifully preserved land.

In addition to the David Rockwell-designed Ninety Acres Restaurant & Cooking School, which currently operates on the site, Pendry Hotels plans to restore the estate with careful attention to detail, as well as expand the already-sprawling space by several thousand square feet. This will start with an adjoining hotel boasting of 66 guest rooms and suites, along with the full-service Spa Pendry offering an “extensive health & wellness curriculum, fitness center, swimming pool and tennis courts, private membership club, and a variety of classic and unique outdoor activities,” all of which are set among scenic trails and pathways groomed for hiking, biking and horseback riding.

Should you like to own your own slice of the rolling hills, modern residences will be available too, starting at $1.4 million, although any way you experience the property will be no doubt be fit for a king.
